True Measure of Success
Submitted by Dr. Charmaine Condappa
Every now and then, when I try to analyze myself as an educator, I question this hypothesis "If I teach and my students learn then, I am a successful science teacher". I am still working on that hypothesis of a successful teacher. However, there is no question about what success is when it comes to my students. The accurate measure of student success is how well they accomplish their current and future academic, personal, and professional goals through a sense of responsibility, self-reliance and self-determination.
During these uncertain times when students find it challenging to keep self-motivated and energized for learning, Owen Hunnie-Menow and Devon Evans still display these qualities and maintain their excellent standards in science. What a pleasurable experience it is for me to commend these students for their hard work and remarkable performance despite the challenges of the times. I hope my readers will celebrate with them by encouraging them to keep up their excellent job in the Sciences and all their other disciplines.

Owen Hunnie-Menow is the best performing student in Grade 11 Chemistry for September, October and November. Like many youths his age, he likes many sports, especially table tennis, badminton, and basketball. His favourite food is spaghetti and pizza. His favourite subject in school is currently Culinary Arts because of working with food. His ambition is to become better than he was the day before, and he also likes to play games and go to work with his friends. Owen is a very hard-working and committed student.
Devon Evans is in Grade 10, and he has achieved academic excellence for September, October and November. His favourite sport is soccer, and his favourite food is rice. Yes, rice! He loves school and is always on task, and completes his assignments on time. I try my best to keep up with him in class. A delightful and courteous young man whom we should all be proud of.
